Coded Virus

This project explores disruptions in the creative process as a meeting point between man and machine. It touches on the tension between the planned, rational, precise places and the wild, intuitive and random places in creation.

What happens when there is a bug in the machine? When there is some higher power that disrupts the plans? Who is above whom?

At first, I discovered the phenomenon of "blobs" in 3D printing and tried to create it manually.

Then, I wrote a script that adds “blobs” in random places in the gcode, manipulating the printer and causing it to jump and extrude.

Each time I modify the code, I watch the pattern on the vase being changed. It feels like debugging clay.

no blobs

reached

max_blobs

at beggining

constant

intervals

added blobs after end of file

wrong calculation

of z value

regex:

x>0 and y>0

As I explored deeper, I could better control the disruptions created on the front of the vases. I started designing them according to the mistakes I encountered.

I created a collection of vases that were "infected" by the coded virus.

I decided to present all the trials along the way, those who succeeded and those who allegedly failed. All together shaped the final result.
